The GetPRO Professional Grassroots Sports Nutrition Grant is a funding programme hosted by The Nutrition Society and funded by Danone, designed to support early career sports nutritionists working with grassroots sports clubs and athletes across the UK.
The programme offers grants of up to £2,000 to help qualified sports nutritionists provide evidence-based nutrition advice and support to community sports teams. Funding can be used towards professional time, travel, resources, educational materials and tools that enable practitioners to deliver high-quality nutrition interventions within grassroots sport.
The grant aims to make expert sports nutrition more accessible beyond elite sport by supporting projects that improve the health, wellbeing and performance of amateur athletes. Funded activities may include dietary assessments, nutrition education workshops, one-to-one consultations, seasonal nutrition support programmes and tailored advice for grassroots sports clubs and teams.
Eligible applicants must be UK-based early career sports nutritionists or dietitians whose most recent qualification in sports nutrition, dietetics, exercise science or a related field was completed within the last ten years. Projects must focus on grassroots or community sport, with support targeted towards amateur athletes and sports clubs rather than professional teams.
Applications are assessed on the applicant’s qualifications, the potential impact of the project, the proposed outcomes and measurement of success, and the overall quality of the delivery plan. Successful applicants benefit from financial support while helping to improve nutrition knowledge and practices within local sporting communities.
The programme represents an excellent opportunity for sports nutrition professionals to gain practical experience, expand their impact in community sport and support healthier, better-performing athletes through accessible, evidence-based nutrition guidance.
